susan's anniversary cake

Just a quick one.  I was asked to make a cake for my boss Susan's 20th wedding anniversary.  She didn't want it to say anything, and let me do what I wanted with the decorations.  Tried out a new border and a new flower cutter.  Pretty happy with the results.  The fondant thing just keeps getting better!  I was so against fondant before because it doesn't taste great, but it really does look purdy.

craf-tea party!

I'm a little late on posting this one.  Last weekend I had a tea and crafting party.  I always enjoy putting together a menu for these events.  Finding the balance between flavours and types of baked goods, and something that won't stress me out too much.  I didn't have a ton of time for baking last weekend so I put together something pretty modest.  At the last minute I panicked that I didn't have enough stuff and threw together some rice crispie squares.  Well, I was very wrong on that front but I am sure my coworkers enjoyed the baked goods.

Cookies first...I made cherry almond tea cookies (dough that was frozen from my catering event), peanut butter chocolate chip cookies (always delicious), and some gluten-free puddle cookies (recipe here).  The gluten free puddle cookies were a bit sweet for my taste but others seemed to enjoy them.

I also made lemon squares, rice crispie squares, banana bread and vanilla bean scones that were recently posted by Michelle at une-deux-senses.  I have tried a few recipes from her blog and they always turn out beautifully!   This was no exception.

Finally, I made some coca cola cupcakes from their website.  These were not very good.  The cake part was kind of bland and the icing was super sweet and lumpy because of the coke.  I liked the idea of the little gummy coke bottles on top but I don't think I'd make them again.

mini strawberry shortcakes!

I just made these little guys.  They came out of the oven about ten minutes ago.  Desperate to try one out, I cut it open and put it in the fridge to cool right away.  So yummy!

It definitely feels like summer out there today, I think it's supposed to get up to 24 celsius and feel like 30 this afternoon.  Strawberry shortcakes are a really summery treat, and I've been wanting to try them for a while now.  I keep seeing them around in books and on other blogs.

I now have a whole bunch of them and no plans for the day...time to invite someone over to come eat them before I eat them all!
